Live Fire Training Instructor

State Exam Review

 

This curriculum is designed to deliver a comprehensive live fire training program, within a safe and controlled environment, in accordance with NFPA 1402, NFPA 1403, and NFPA 1500. Both lecture and practical will be used allowing participants to apply knowledge of the above standards to training activities. Participants must have Fire Instructor I or greater certification prior to class.

Demonstrate positive interaction when working with Heavy Equipment and Rigging Specialists (HERS), Structures Specialists (StS), and Rescue Team Leaders when solving rescue problems that involve heavy equipment and rigging • Improve utilization and communication with heavy equipment contractors and operators • Explain the basic concepts, safety, failure mode, and uses of heavy equipment and wire rope rigging for hazard mitigation during US&R incidents • Describe what types of mobile cranes US&R operations may employ and the conditions that affect their efficient use • Safely and efficiently deploy a mobile crane in critical US&R operations • Explain how demolition contractors and their equipment may be effectively used in US&R operations • Identify the non-traditional uses of mobile cranes that might be employed in US&R operations.

Apparatus Operations and Fire Service Hydraulics

FP 1301 & FFP 1302 IFSTA Pumping Apparatus Driver/Operator course meeting NFPA 1001 requirements for driver/operators. Covers basic pump theory, effective use of fire streams, fire pump operations, and hydraulic concepts. Complex application situations are covered. Students who complete this course will be able to sit for the State Pump Operators Test.

Pump Operator Refresher Class    

This 20-hour course is designed for firefighters preparing to take their Fire Department’s Engineer’s Test, or for students just needing to review the material again. The student will demonstrate an understanding of the pump operator’s responsibilities while operating from the pump panel for a given fire evolution. The student will show that he/she understands how to calculate the proper friction loss while maintaining proper flow and pressures during the evolution.

Structural Collapse Operations

Structural Collapse Level I is a 40 hour course designed to train the rescuer operating in a collapsed building of light construction. This course meets or exceeds NFPA 1006, Chapters 5 and 9.1. The student will be trained on scene size up, building marking techniques, victim identification and removal, building stabilization, breaching/breaking and moving heavy loads. Emphasis will be placed on victim/rescuer safety, light weight construction and the utilization of basic hand tools to achieve objectives.

Structural Collapse Level II is an 80 hour course designed to train the rescuer operating in a collapsed building of heavy construction. This course meets or exceeds NFPA 1006 Chapter 5, & 9.2. The student will be trained on: scene size up, building marking techniques, victim identification and removal, building stabilization, breaching/breaking and moving heavy loads. Emphasis will be placed on victim/rescuer safety, heavy construction.

Confined Space Ops/Tech

Confined Space Rescue Level I & II is a 40 hour course designed to train rescuers in all aspects of a confined space emergency, including rescue and recovery. This course meets OSHA standard 1910.146, as well as NFPA 1006 Chapter 5, 7.1 & 7.2. Confined Space Level I/II will teach proficiency in: assessment of confined spaces, pre-entry operations, atmospheric testing, supplied air breathing systems, personal protective equipment, lock-out/tag-out procedures and conducting/executing confined space rescues.  Emphasis will be place on lowering/raising techniques and safely reaching, assessing, packaging and removing victims from confined spaces.

Trench Rescue Ops/Tech

Trench Rescue Level I & II is a 40 hour course designed to train the rescuer in trench rescue and recovery. This course meets or exceeds NFPA 1006 Chapters 5, 8.1 & 8.2. The student will be trained on: trench size up and assessment, atmospheric monitoring, trench support shoring, victim profiling and packaging in the trench. Emphasis will be placed on rescuer/victim safety, trench stabilization/shoring techniques of straight and intersecting trenches.

Vehicle and Machinery Rescue Level I is a 40 hour course designed to train rescuers in light vehicle and machinery extrication. This course will meet or exceed NFPA 1006 Chapter 5 & 10.1 requirements. It will teach the students the basics of vehicle and machinery rescue, scene size up, identifying hazards, stabilization of common passenger cars and machinery, entry and egress techniques, disentanglement techniques, tool usage, patient packaging and removal. Emphasis will be placed on rescuer and victim safety, proper tool selection and usage and utilizing a multi-step approach to extrication planning. The utilization of multiple tools/equipment to achieve course objectives
